Wall thickness on a silicone hose is set by three things acting together rather than by a single rule. The first is the service condition, since a hose that carries boost at high temperature and pressure needs thicker walls and more reinforcement than a coolant or intake hose working at low pressure. The second is assembly, because the wall has to compress enough under the clamp to seal yet stay thick enough that the clamp cannot shear the wall or the reinforcement. The third is the bend, since a tight bend thins the outer wall during forming if the wall starts too thin. Fudiesel reviews the drawing or the original sample, measures the bore, wall and ply count, and confirms the ply layup and wall for the application. The agreed wall thickness is then written into the quotation rather than assumed.
