How does Fudiesel choose the stainless steel grade for a turbo diesel exhaust system?

Oct 14th,2026 14 Views

Grade selection for a turbo diesel exhaust follows the conditions the part will actually see. Austenitic stainless such as 304 is specified where corrosion resistance and weld quality matter most, which is usual for diesel trucks that tow in wet or salted conditions and for parts that must survive repeated heat cycles. Where service conditions are moderate and a buyer's market is cost sensitive, a ferritic exhaust grade such as 409 is specified instead, because it resists the external corrosion an exhaust sees at a lower material cost while accepting a different weld procedure. Wall thickness, gas temperature, mounting stress and the buyer's own material standard all feed the decision, and Fudiesel confirms the grade against the application and states it in the quotation rather than leaving the buyer to guess.
