A custom part at Fudiesel is approved on a first article before any batch work begins. The first article is a production-representative sample taken from the actual tooling and process that will be used for the order, so it proves the mold, fixture or weld procedure rather than only a hand-made prototype. It is measured and compared against the approved drawing or the physical sample supplied by the buyer, covering critical dimensions, bore, wall condition, flange faces, mounting points and finish. Where a fitment sample is available, the first article is assembled to it so clearance and alignment are proven on the vehicle as well as on the bench. Any deviation is corrected and a revised first article is submitted. Only when the first article is accepted does batch production start. Inspection points and acceptance criteria are agreed with the buyer, confirmed against the drawing or sample and recorded in the written quotation.
