How does Fudiesel stop thin wall titanium exhausts from distorting during welding?

Oct 15th,2026 13 Views

Fudiesel controls distortion in thin wall titanium exhausts with fixturing and weld sequence rather than by welding faster. Tubes and flanges are located in a rigid fixture that holds centerlines, flange faces and hanger positions while the joint is made, so the assembly cannot pull out of alignment as it cools. Welds are run as short balanced passes on opposite sides of the joint, alternating direction so shrinkage from one pass is offset by the next instead of building up along a single edge. Heat input is kept low, and the interpass temperature is allowed to fall before the next bead is laid, because titanium conducts heat away slowly and a hot joint distorts easily. Titanium also has to stay clean and fully shielded during welding. Geometry is then checked against the approved drawing or sample, and each procedure is fixed for the part and proven on the first article before batch production. Requirements are confirmed against the drawing or the physical sample and stated in the written quotation.
