A new silicone hose mold is developed from the actual part rather than from a description, because the fit is decided by the shape of the original hose. Fudiesel starts with the sample, drawing or 3D scan and records the free state geometry, the bore at each end, the wall and the position of any molded feature such as a bead, a branch or a mounting lug. A mandrel or core is then built to that geometry, accounting for the shrinkage of silicone during cure and for the spring back of the reinforcement, so the finished hose matches the original when it is fitted rather than when it sits on a bench. A first article is molded and compared with the sample before a production mold is released. Dimensional tolerances and the approval step are recorded in the written quotation.
