What is the shelf life of a silicone hose?

Oct 21st,2026 7 Views

A silicone hose does not expire on a date printed on the bag; what limits its storage life is how it is kept before fitting. Compound that sits in heat, daylight or contact with oils and solvents can stiffen or develop surface cracking long before it is installed, and a hose stored under load can take a permanent set that later prevents it sealing. The conditions that matter are a cool, dry, dark store, no direct sunlight, no ozone sources such as electric motors or welding equipment nearby, no weight resting on the hose, and no contact with solvents, fuels or lubricants. Hoses stay in their original packaging until use, and stock is rotated so older pieces are fitted first. A hose that has gone chalky, cracked or stiff should be inspected rather than assumed serviceable. Actual storage life depends on these conditions and is subject to the written quotation or contract.
