How is the burst pressure of a silicone hose tested?

Oct 21st,2026 3 Views

Burst pressure testing is a destructive check, and its purpose is to prove that a hose fails in a predictable way rather than to certify a working pressure. A sample taken from the production batch is capped at both ends, filled with an incompressible medium and pressurized until the wall gives way. Water is used instead of air because it stores little energy, so a failure releases a small amount of fluid rather than an explosive burst of gas. The failure mode is read as closely as the point of failure. A hose that splits along its length, or one that leaks at the coupling before the body gives way, says something different about the reinforcement and the bond than a clean rupture in the middle of the wall. Results are compared with the design intent and with earlier batches, and a change in failure mode is treated as a process signal. Fudiesel confirms test requirements against the drawing or the supplied sample and states them in the written quotation.
